All You Need to Know About Getting a Green Card
For people who have dreamed about starting up their own American Dream and moving to the United States, they have probably had to deal with one minor set back and that’s getting a Green Card, so that they can become a permanent resident of the US. People need to get a Green Card if they want to live in the US, as this is used as proof that they have the right to live and work there.
It’s not so easy to get one though, there is a lot of waiting that must be done, forms to fill out. There’s a lot more to it then people realise. However, one of the easiest ways to get a Green Card is by participating in the Green Card lottery… If you are interested in learning more about Green Cards though, then keep on reading.
What Are the Requirements to Get a Green Card?
Getting a Green Card is more complicated then just simply asking for one, there are files to file in, an interview to do. You need to have a good reason to want to come and get a Green Card, such as a job offer, family, your spouse lives in the US etc… You can also apply for a Green Card just because you fancy a change, however, you might not be guaranteed it.
There are three different ways that you can get a Green Card. The first is through winning the Green Card Lottery (which is one of the easiest things to get on to), then second is through your work (e.g. your work wants you to relocate, or perhaps you’ve been offered a job in the US) and the third is through your family.
What Happens If You Lose Your Green Card?
If you lose your Green Card (also known as a Resident Card), then you need to replace it as soon as you can. You can easily Replace Resident Card, however, it’s best to make sure you do it as soon as you realise that it is missing/lost for good. No matter how much you take care of it, if your wallet gets stolen and it’s in there, then you may never get it back. Some people easily misplace it as well.
If you do lose it, then this won’t affect you living in the US straight away, however, it will become a problem if you want to travel or get offered a job easily. You will also struggle to buy a house and even struggle to renew your driving license. Don’t panic though, as if you are aware that you have lost it and have replaced it then you should be fine. You might just have to wait for your card to turn up though.
Beware of Scams
If you don’t really know what you are doing, or don’t know enough about immigration, visas or the Green Card process, then be careful as there will be plenty of scammers out there who will try to take advantage of you. Don’t give them your personal details or money if they ask, instead make sure that you go to a reputable place that can give you what you want properly.
These are only three things that you need to be aware of when it comes to getting a Green Card, however, there are plenty of other things that you need to do, like sorting out authentic documents, making sure all your details are correct. If you are ever unsure about something, then just make sure that you ask. Particularly, as getting a Green Card is different for the United States then other countries. For example, take the UK, it’s a totally different process.
